Jack Kirby Photo

Here's an autograph photo of Jack Kirby. I got this as a freebie when I was a member of the CFA-APA. I believe Bob Latimer made this possible.

Comics and Concerts

Here is a selection of concert flyers and comic store ads from the Detroit area collected in the mid-1980's to 1990's. Since they have monster movie themes or cool art, I decided they are appropriate here.

Brain Bolland: Short Science Fiction Story

Here's a science fiction story, written by J.M. DeMatteis and drawn by Brian Bolland. DC Comics published it in Madame Xanadu Special #1 in 1981. This was before Bolland began to become popular in the United States with the publication of Judge Dredd reprints and Camelot 3000 in 1982. The facial expressions in the story are what really stand out to me, particularly the alien's expression on the third panel of page two. Bolland packs a lot of emotion in an alien looking face, not an easy thing to do. The crowd scene on page 4 is a standout also, looks like some mayhem straight out of a Judge Dredd story.

Aurora Comics Scenes: Superboy

In the mid-1970's Aurora model company brought out a series of models called "Comics Scenes." They were based on comic book, radio serial, and pulp characters. The models came with a comic book complete with a centerspread to use as a backdrop for the completed model. Below is a scan of a stat of the original art and the published comic cover for the Superboy model kit. Art by Dave Cockrum.
